How to use Cute and other FTP softwares

• FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is the best means for moving large files across the Internet. FTP is a client/server protocol that enables a user with an FTP client to log on to a remote machine, navigate the file system of that remote machine, and upload and download files from that machine. You require login and password to connect to the remote server to upload your site, which your web hosting company will provide you.

• In other words it is a best used software to transfer your Web Site which you have designed on your PC to the web server where you have taken Web Hosting from your Hosting company to host your domain name. Once you upload the files on the web server space provided to you the files are visible to any one who opens your web site.

• Always remember to upload your files in the proper directory like www or httpdocs or public_html (ask your server administrator which is the correct root directory for you to upload files) and always name your main web site file as index.htm . If the root directory has more than one one index file like index.htm or index.html or it has default.htm file then delete the unwanted ones. As far as possible keep the names of all the files in lowercase and do not use any one or particularly first letter as Upper case.
